On today's rgcc a posting told about a mate in 16 solved by MChess in 4:31 (Pentium II 266, 60 Megs of hash), but "improved" on some time later with an incorrect annoucement as a mate in 15. The position is k7/2K2p2/p3p3/P2PP1P1/2p5/1p5p/2P5/8 w - - and the first move is 1.g6! I tested some of my programs with the following results: CM5500 - solves this with a mate in 16 announcement instantly (!), my commercial Rebel 8 cannot solve it within a 3 minute span, but all the engines within "Rebel X" solve it instantly (!!! - Rebel Decade 2, Rebel 7, 8, 9), Junior and Hiarcs do see the right move but do not announce the mate. How about other programs? Regards, Djordje
