The Athlon/Duron use a double-pumped FSB, which means that they can transfer data on both the rising and falling edges of a clock pulse. So while the bus is actually running at 133Mhz, it works as if it were 266Mhz, hence the 266FSB designation that is often used. >And will the Palomino be enormously better? Is it for desk-top? No. One of the hardware site had some preliminary benchmarks and the advantage is something like 5% at the same clockspeed. But it will run at (much) higher clockspeeds than the current Athlons will. There will be desktop versions. >and will it be >superior to Intel on all fronts, absolutely? No. The P4 is a radically different design, and it will always be faster for some things, but slower for most others. The P4 will probably reach higher clockspeeds than the Palominos will, but it is a dead end. There will be no upgrade to whatever Intel comes up with next. That said, I see no reason to pick P4 over Athlon/Palomino, especially not when factoring in price. Unless your favorite app happens to be one that is significantly faster on P4. >And will the price be reasonable? I think so. AMDs prices are always reasonable, especially if you can afford to wait a month or two :) -- GCP
