I recently upgraded to 512MB of PC-133, thinking oh Fritz will perform better in which it does, however i noticed something strange that hopefully someone can explain. When i had a single 256MB chip Fritz was listing 184MB as the Maximum with the regular values 32 64 128 etc. Now it seems that the Maximum is 384MB with the only option given being 286MB , 256MB, 184 128 etc. Well the computer is an AMD Athlon 800Mhz, I try different testsets and on various problems sometimes clearing the hash tables sometimes not but it just dosen't always solve some of the BS test positions why would it solve 1 position one time and then not solve the SAME one another time something screams that something is not right. Luckily i have another computer a 500Mhz PIII and it solves the position every time the only difference in speed and that there are little or no tablebases on the pentium, while the athlon has alot . Also some times the athlon will solve a problem in under 2 minutes while other times it will stick on a position and will not go to the next depth in fact i have let it sit for 40+ minutes and it didn't change from the depth eval after 3 minutes. Please someone explain the hash behaviour
