Since doing so I've noticed a speed jump >in crafty as well I think maybe 10-20 percent speed up as a whole. Did you also recompile Crafty? The reason I ask is because I have just installed Mandrake 8.0 and have noticed that some programs, compiled with gcc 2.96, seem to run about 10%-20% faster than programs compiled in my old SuSE 6.0 installation which uses gcc 2.95-2. This seems quite an increase in speed and I wonder if it's due to a combination of the compiler and the newer kernel or just the compiler. > >I tryed alot of other programs that I couldn't get to work like CA. 5.1 but I >guess theirs always scid. > >I kept trying and if I get more chess programs working I'll share info. I also got Genius2 to work but I have had no success with Chessmaster3000 for windows.
