Did you also recompile Crafty? The reason I ask is because I have just installed
Mandrake 8.0 and have noticed that some programs, compiled with gcc 2.96, seem
to run about 10%-20% faster than programs compiled in my old SuSE 6.0
installation which uses gcc 2.95-2. This seems quite an increase in speed and I
wonder if it's due to a combination of the compiler and the newer kernel or just
the compiler.

I also got Genius2 to work but I have had no success with Chessmaster3000 for
windows.
