I believe that Dos cannot help chess programs significantly and in most cases it can only be counter productive. I know that a lot of chess programs are written in C and the compilers of windows are better than the compiler of Dos. I read that tiger12 for windows was better than the previous Dos version because of this fact. Even in the cases when Dos can help I believe that it is not important because being 1-5% faster is not significant. Uri
