I was only half-serious too.  But if I was going to clone something, it would
*definitely* be SCP.  It has a move list, which TSCP lacks.  It is also missing
a Hash table like TSCP, but easily added (a lot easier than a move list).  It
also has a crude opening book.

I fiddled around with this version some:

It's not a winboard engine (but would be fairly simple to convert into one).

SCP stands for Stanback Chess Program.

The version on my ftp site is very old.  It was originally written by John
Stanback.  Steven J. Edwards fiddled with it some, and then I butchered it
fooling around a bit.  Here is a game it played against itself:
