I you want to understand the ChessBase engine notation the question is: How many official service packs have been released that changed the engine (substantially)? Not how many different .eng files with a different date exists here and there. Eg. was the engine 6b an official service pack, or reserved for YT and a ChessBase CD? As far as I understand 6a and 6b are identical except for a (minor) tablebase fix. That would explain the use of 6c for the latest engine revision. Mogens.
