But after a while the attention will switch to another engine. And another. In that respect I think it puts things into perspective. Not everything can be bought with money and it should make you think about pointless consumerism. It blurs quality and emphasizes ownership as an absolute quality. Unrestrained capitalism. Let me try an example. When the discussions about the ChessBase qualifier was at its highest some thought that only commercial programs should be allowed. That's an absurd train of thought. As if the possibility of owning is a quality in itself in this context. Having programs like Ferret is (should be) a reality check IMO. Well, I understand your point of view and I would certainly choose Ferret over any ChessBase product any day. However, releasing a commecial engine is enormous work for the author. He (or she) will be bombarded with e-mails and questions about everything between heaven and earth. It might be a discouraging experience if it used to be a enjoyable hobby. >On the other hand it could be an idea to become a world-champion first and to >sell the programm to Microsoft. :-)) What do you think? That might be a plan :-). I like the Windows 2000 Pinball game, so why not a chess game as well :-). Regards, Mogens
