In the game against Markol, Searcher got itself into this position [D]2b3k1/1pr1npp1/pR2p2p/P3P3/2PNBP2/3PK1P1/7P/8 b - - (described by IM Schroer as winning), evaluating it as better than +2 pawns. It then proceeded to maintain the status quo by making non-committal moves until its score started to fall slightly (I suppose because of 3 rep) when it varied and finally stumbled on the obvious of plan of pushing the d pawn. The game then ended quickly. I think of the situation as Searcher having got itself into a potential well with no position it can foresee being good enough to make it climb out. Rather like everything good it sees is in the well with it. Presumably this a well know phenomenon. Are there any well know solutions, other than waiting for 3 rep to kick in sufficiently to make it try some other move? (I was getting so embarrassed I almost offered a draw.).
