I don't think it's a bad idea, but I kind of like the idea of
having a semi-formal get together once or twice a year where
everybody prepares and gets together to play and discuss what
they've been working on.  I wonder if having weekend tournaments
would somehow diminish that.

It's also a very draining process to spend an entire weekend
watching a computer chess tournament. :-)  For that reason alone
I think a couple times a year is all I can take!
