I think its simply that the ICC event is more formal and has an air of
respectibilty were as if it becomes a frequent event then this respectibilty
goes out the window.  Also its also the fact that its semi annual and author
only that the various commercial engines show up and play too.

The FICS events I have look at have standings like this;

1st Yace
2nd Yace
3rd Crafty
4th LG
5th Yace
hehe basicly everyone and his clone enters.
