i'm quite convinced that the chessmaster8000 engine is not the same as johan de konnigs real KING engine: year after year the owners of chessmaster have treated it like a football kicking it around from place to place-no real commitment to product support or actual product improvement or to listening to users requiements-all they are interested in is making a prettier face (even if it has bugs crawling all over it)so that 10 yr old kids can get attracted to it. it has very few features that would make a professional or even a chess enthusiast attracted to it. it does not even do a proper job of presenting the strongest possible settings the market that is targeted by cm 8000 cares 2 hoots about its playing strength-(and even if they care, are not capable of telling the difference)even a cm2100 would be more than strong enough for them.they are quite satisfied to be told by chessmaster that they are getting the strongest chess opponent in the world. currently there are only 2 groups of players who buy chessmaster-pre-teen kids and fools like us who waste money on chess-master for 2 main reasons-a)to enjoy the sight of it getting thrashed by our favourite programmes b)to waste time tweaking the settings to produce the "strongest possible version"-why this can't be done by beta testers, before the programme is released i dont know-have any of these tweakers ever been approached by chessmaster directly for advice or beta-testing? i bet not-this obviously shows how much chessmaster cares for computer-chess enthusiasts like us lets face facts-chessmaster is no more than an overpriced, over-rated but mediocre chess programme. under these circumstances why would johan disply his best work?-its like casting pearls before swine! i'm sure he's reserving the real king for the day when chesmaster really cares about making a chess programme that would be useful to real chess players rajen
