another one i've seen a "1700" level player pull is he'll choose opening
variations that lead to sort of simple symmetrical positions where almost all
the major pieces are is swapped out, then they play a simple endgame to a draw.
i watched a "1700" player do this about 8 times in one day against Tiger 14.  he
loses the games where  he can't get HIS type of opening, but when he gets a
simple symmetrical one, the draw comes pretty easily.  this is against a 3000
rated AMD machine on ICC, to put it in context.  the time control, game in 15 OR
game in 5.
