My chess program RDCHESS used to increase the full width search depth for one ply when analyzing "a capture move with a target square which was the target of the last move before and this move was also a capture move (or pawn promotion)". That is unconditionally, independent from the types of the original capture move and the recapture. I have recently abandonded this extension (which is based as far as I know to a proposal by Mr. Berliner at the conference "Advances in Computer Chess IV" (1984)). I could find no noticeable better play, running test suites (Bratko-Kopec, Louget,..) with/ and without this feature. Running the test suites with fixed depth search (e.g. 7 plies) there are naturally more searched nodes per test position and more time used with the recapture extension switched on.
