You got the expected thing.
Powerbooks include a lot of weak moves so the fact that you lost more games is
not surprising.

Using smaller books is productive when the time control is longer so I believe
that the book should be function of the time control and at long time control
you should use smaller books if you want to win.

Unfortunately the books of chess programs include only moves and not the time
control that the moves should be played.
