I strongly agree with your last point about forgettign about Deep Blue.
Just because Deep Blue wants to take its ball and go home the game goes
on. Deep Blue does not even have a winnign record against Kasparov
(which I believe some GM's do like lauteir and maybe even ?Gulko? or I
can't rember now who it was) The best thing Gary Kasparov could do for
the chess community is offer to play the winner of a computer chess
tournament in a CHAMPIONSHIP match for free! Make it clear that any
computers can enter the tournament so its clear that Deep blue can
participate if they want. This is the only way to throw down the
gauntlet and demonstrate that the match was fluke jsut like any other
tournament that for one reason or another he played poorly. Since most
people mistakenly think deep blue is the world champ(at least in
america) Gary really has nothing to lose. Gary needs some cajones.
