Subject: a chess engine in less than 1000 lines of code

I remember seeing a Basic program that had about 1000 lines and played chess but
this was when I was like 14 or 15 and knew very little about anything. I would
be very interested in getting my hands on this program to get a simple
understanding of how the chess engine works. Even if it implements a less than
perfect search algorithm, I just need something to work with, I can also
change out parts for much better implementations. The thing about chess
programs is that they are very complicating to anybody new trying to get a foot
in the door. a Small and Simple program that worked would do the trick for many
people out there. If nobody knows what I am talking about, are any chess
program authors interested in making a very very simple and short program for
such purposes? If you know of a very short one in C-C++ or even Pascal that
would be excellent. Thanks for your time.
