Bob: I agree with you that the article could have been more careful. Of course. But my point is that we should never become so angry for mistakes of that sort that does not damage our knowledege and does not damage lay people ignorance. In fact, they will know a little more about this, even with the mistakes. I insist: what a heck they care about when and where Fritz did win DB? That is a detail inside the bigger picture. At leats they by now knows that computer playing chess exist, that they calculates thousands of moves, that they -the programs- are taken seriously by great players, that a match will be played in Barhein, etc. Burgess just wrote something to entertain and his article should not be taken so seriously: of course is not a measure of his capabilities as a journalist, when he does care about. Not every thing appearing in the newspapper is so light and carefree and not everything appearing there should be. By the same token, not every article of a guy should be used to measure the guy or even the quality of an activity or profession. Burgess, like you and me, have a right to take thing in funny and ligh way from time to time if nothing so important as your example -not a good one because the huge disparity - of the IIWW is on stake.
