Subject: Concerning the use of The King outside of the CM GUI

Firstly, I should state that this post DOES NOT constitute an OFFICIAL legal
statement by Ubi Soft. However, I believe that there will not BE an official
statement, so you can probably consider this the "last word".

After speaking with my superiors, it has been determined that WE HAVE NO PROBLEM
with the procedure that was posted here yesterday regarding how to use The King
outside of the CM GUI. There was no disassembling or modification of the
installed files, and there was no "crack" that prevented the need for the
Chessmaster CD. Therefore, we believe that this procedure is acceptable under
the License Agreement.

However, we would ask one thing: Please, as a courtesy, do not rename the file
called "TheKing.exe" when using it in other GUIs. Some other GUIs can allow
users to see the name of the chess engine that you are running, and we would
like people to be aware, whenever possible, that it is Johan's engine that is
being used.

Additionally, it should be noted that as long as the CM GUI is required as a
part of this procedure, then there should be no problem with its legality.
However, if a way is discovered or created to circumvent the CD requirement,
then there may be legal issues.

Many thanks for your patience and understanding regarding this matter. I was
completely unauthorized to make any legal statements regarding this issue up
until now, and my first duty is to protect our legal copyrights. Therefore,
until I was certain that there was nothing illegal being done, I could not even
give my opinion in the matter.

My apologies if anyone was offended by my corporate attitude.... ;-)
