I'll try to be objective and unbiassed : In fact there is a simple method to run The King under the ChessBase GUI, and with a good hex editor it's possible to rename it into e.g. CM King and using the right tools you can modify yet a few other things or generate a new PE structure, header and checksum but I will not go into details here. I played a small tournament under the ChessBase GUI and the unweakened standard personality ranks about Crafty but in the CM8K GUI it enjoys privileges the guest engines don't. The ChessMaster 8000 is recommended for those that want nice layouts, bells and whistles, nice graphics, and especially the young chessfans will enjoy it more than any other program. But if you emphasize playing strength and analysis, the new ChessBase engines are recommended. It's not impossible that in the near future the Learning Company and ChessBase will join forces and use the best of both software worlds to create engines and GUI's that please the mind as well as the eye. For those that organize tournaments it 'd be great if all engines could run under all GUI's.
