IIRC, this is how it was being done at the Dutch Championship 2000. Some player's didn't play the computer, or resigned early... on the other hand, elo points are not the only thing to achieve in a tournament. I assume that there is price money to be won. Furthermore, it harms the reputation if an IM or GM doesn't try to do his best against the machine IMO. Interesting is also, that they are going to use an alternative scoring system (win=3, draw=1), like it was used in Lippstadt 2000 (which was the 1st GM tournament a computer has won): http://people.freenet.de/lsvturm/gm2000.htm (the server of this page is very slow currently) Regards, M.Scheidl
