I'm the human behind HiddenDragon(C) on USCL. Parameters were: hardware: Athlon 1 GHz, 768 MB RAM, Win 2k Pro program: Chess Tiger 14, 192 MB hash, draw score -15 (to decrease likelihood of draws), anti-human ON book: no gui book, ct.tbk engine book The following game occurred: Date: 10/6/2001 White: (Human player) Black: HiddenDragon Opening: A19 English: Mikenas-Carls, Sicilian Variation White ELO: 1878 Black ELO: 2594 Time control = 5 5 Engine book(s): ct.tbk 1. c4 Nf6 2. Nc3 e6 3. e4 c5 4. f4 d6 5. d3 Nc6 6. g3 e5 7. f5 g6 8. g4 h6 9. Bg2 Nd4 10. h4 Nxg4 11. Qxg4 Nc2+ 12. Kd1 gxf5 13. exf5 Nxa1 14. Nd5 Rb8 15. Qh5 Rg8 16. Be4 b5 17. Nf3 bxc4 18. dxc4 a5 19. Ng5 hxg5 20. Bxg5 Rxg5 21. hxg5 Bb7 22. Nf6+ Ke7 23. Ng8+ Ke8 24. Nf6+ Ke7 25. Ng8+ Ke8 26. Nf6+ Game drawn by repetition 1/2-1/2 Two games later, the same opponent played almost the exact same game (White's 9th and 10th moves were transposed) with the same outcome... draw on move 26. Since the same opponent had played a series of losing games with HiddenDragon(C) before stumbling upon this drawing line, I wasn't going to take a chance that he would try it a 3rd time, so I logged off, loaded Gambit Tiger 2 in aggressive mode with the gambit opening book, and logged back on :) He had already disconnected by then. Anyway, I'd like to know what I can do to prevent this situation from repeating. I think my options are: 1- modify the ct.tbk engine opening book (Is this even possible?) 2- use a gui book in conjunction with the engine book to try to avoid this line (I'm new to opening book creation, so I'd need exact instructions on how to do this.) 3- change the value of draw score to -20 or -25 to further decrease the probability of such 3-fold repetition draws. Any comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
