Ah geez. I guess I knew it was a possibility, but I truly did _NOT_ want to start this damn GM arguement again. Oh well. Comes with the territory I guess. I've read all the posts, and I agree a little with every single one of them. My mission here is to try to gather whether or not a (home) computer playing chess, is GM strength. A 8x Xeon is _NOT_ a home computer. In the last 5 BIG matches that put Man vs Machine, the machines are ridiculous. And tournament directors always seem to pit the current champ vs. the current champ program. This too is a little silly IMHO. This is what I am trying to do right now: Match 4 GM's against 4 TOP chess playing programs on HOME computers. The GM's will be BELOW 2600 FIDE. Why? 2600+ GM's are GM's that shine brightly out of the crowd of other GM's. They are the "super" GM's. I want an ordinary, plain, GM's. And just like the GM's, I was "ordinary & plain" computers too. The computers we use at our houses everyday. Once again, I believe this to add more substance to the results of this tournament. What will it prove? Well, it could prove a lot, or it could nothing at all. If the computers win undefeated, what will it prove? I would think, and persoanlly feel that I can say with a great amount of confidence, chess computers are GM strength. If they don't win a single game, I would think, and personally feel, chess computers are not GM strength. If it ties, then damn it, I guess this topic will continue to haunt us all. :) Anyway, the ball is rolling. I hope to have some good news soon. If you have any ideas or thoughts on the tournament, PLEASE e-mail me. I appreciate ANY & ALL the input I can get! Slate
