I am certain this is a draw. As for the rule of Q+N vs. Q+B I think you have it
backwards, in a N vs. B endgame the N often is worse (not losing worse, but
still) than the B unless the N has secure outposts, all else being equal. That's
why one should not exchange the Q.

I prefer the reformulation: Never exchange to a pawn endgame if you are
uncertain of its outcome. And we have to try it *sometimes* to know if we are in
the right. The crass truth is that most chess programs are bad at pawn endgames
(unless the pawns are bocked), both commercials and free. Two shining exceptions
are YACE and Crafty, and in my opinion YACE is the more reliable of the two. If
you have a SMP system crafty will have a small edge due to greater speed. The
opposite is true for uniprocessor systems. Here is a good exampe of a really
