Maybe he simply knows the relevant line and knew from experience that he can get
an equal endgame against computers from the relevant line.

He got a rook endgame against the machine in game 3

[D]5k2/5ppp/4p3/p5P1/2r1P2P/P4P2/4R1K1/8 w - - 0 1

The rook endgame seems to be equal.

The GM in the previous day won Deep Junior in an equal pawn endgame so I do not
see something illogical in trading to a rook endgame and hoping to beat the
machine in the endgame if it does a mistake.

I do not understand exactly which move do you criticize in game 4.

Which move is leading to a tactical game instead of a positional game?
