The .lrn files are not used.  They are ASCII files that can be shared with
others, or if others give you their .lrn files, you can "import" them into
your position.bin/book.bin files.

all of the "learning" goes on in book.bin (for book learning) and position.bin
(for search learning).  You can delete the .lrn files if you want, without
losing a thing.
