I don't know about the soundcard issue you asked about, or if it was mentioned in the FAQ info which is currently not available from www.chessmaster.com. I have looked into my cm.ini: [settings] notation_style=2 IntroMovie=0 piece_sounds=2 NLAVoice=1 TutorialVoice=0 IVAVoice=0 IllegalMoveVoice=1 WindowClose=1 Buddy=1 ChatTell=1 Challenge=1 Maybe you could try to set all sound related entries to "0". At least that's what I would try first. But don't forget, that the user profiles (in the user directory) have their own ini files each.
