Subject: Calculation is Good, but so is Knowledge!

Go up one level in this thread

Terry at depth 21 it is very hard to see the draw, but not everybody has a
machine with the capability of reaching depth 24 and beyond if possible like Ed
Panek.

Pichard.

Quite honestly Jorge I've seen the draw for sometime now. Since move 21..Bc8 I
knew White had a dead even game, even as early as 15..Rfc8 it looked level and
expected a draw.

Computers are very strong but they really know nothing, and outside their
evaluations can't discern what really is a drawn position until it's forced.
Tablebases let them know in basic 5 piece endings and now 6 piece endings
as well whether their won lossed or drawn.

On the other hand it's this same _lack_ of knowledge that may allow the web a
chance to win as computers outside their range of search and tablebases, still
don't handle endings nearly as well as the middlegame.(Kingside Attacks
Notwitstanding) It's still their main weakness, although not as severe as a
decade ago;)

So yes, it's a draw, but Gambit Tiger II doesn't know that it's a draw, and
probably will make another small indiscretion or two:)

If so, it very well may become a win for us! Hope so, anyways.

Nevertheless, I wouldn't mind Ed's machine!;)

Regards,
 Terry
