Processors these days are available for purchase in two forms: 'boxed' from the manufacturer (AMD or Intel), and 'OEM'. The 'boxed' parts normally come with a heatsink-fan unit and have a longer warranty. The 'OEM' parts are meant for sale to system integrators, but can also be purchased at computer specialty stores - these parts consist of the processor only, with no fan/heatsink, and may carry a shorter warranty.
