I wouldn't say Ashley isn't a GM and i wouldn't say anything really negative about him. I am not racist either but that shouldn't matter as this is NOT the KKK forum so why anyone would accuse someone else of being racist is beyond me. On the same token You always have to watch what you say and how you say something I take it somebody used the words Black and weak in the same sentence this does NOT mean a person is racist this just means that someone didn't use better judgement not that this person is stupid or anything like that just sometimes people slip up or are hyperfocused on skin color or ethnic background etc and use it to describe a person ....anyways GM ashley is a GM non the less and earned the title though he COULD'VE asked to negotiate but he didn't want that he wanted to earn it outright this was mentioned in the interview in chess life . So you know he is a GM but how strong is he? That i can't answer but He did well at Foxwoods . As for quality of his games i have seen tactical missights where i think a 2600 or 2700 wouldn't miss they would examine the move .... What's interesting is that some moves GM's make computers will only find after 8 ply searches sometimes not at all but this time the computer discards Rg3 (the actual move in the game ) at 3ply. Do GM's look only 3ply? Nope But neither do they always look at 1 or 2 or moves. When they reach a critical position however they probably look more than 4 moves ....
