Let us not confuse marketing strategy with so kind of high ideals of
fair play.
In view of any proof of cheating on Fritz 5’s part. One must conclude
that some of the other programmers feel they no longer can compete
inside of SSDF. As they scratch for a few more points with every new
version its seems to be in there monetary interest to take this kind of
action. As it looks like it would take them a long time to over take
Fritz 5 with its 55-point lead on the SSDF list. This is a marketing
war. And in this war if some find it necessary to try and kill off
SSDF as a counter action in this war, then so be it. There is no brother
hood of chess programmers. It’s every man for him self. This is a risky
strategy on the part of some. I guess they feel if the prize of being #1
on the SSDF list is out of reach. Its better to try and destroy that
prize then let ChessBase have long term gain with it.
