Source to my port of crafty to the iPAQ PocketPC is in the iPAQ directory on the crafty ftp site. WinCE is the straight Win32 API and MFC with some advanced features missing and some platform specific API's added. Unlike the PalmOS, you have full access to the memory of the device (for hash tables). Much faster processors are available as well (StrongARM 206MHz on the iPAQ). These are the main advantages for a chess program. There are several flavours of WinCE: PocketPC, Handheld, and Palm; for different processors: ARM, MIPS, x86, etc. This fragments the WinCE market and makes it harder on the developer compared to the single PalmOS platform. For instance, the crafty port has only been tested on the iPAQ (PocketPC + ARM) and probably doesn't work on anything else. Ian
