becuase the choices in the poll were rather narrow (also apples and oranges I would say), here is my two cents worth...... Two types of comparisons (at least) should be made. There should be tests done from starting positions without opening books which would evaluate the engine only. For people who use computers mostly for analysis, this is the relevant ranking. The other would be with whatever opening book is supplied with the program and this would evaluate overall strength. For people who want a strong training partner the second is more important. Tim
