Its not like computers and GMs have not yet had a chance to play and so we dont
have any basis to judge their relative strenght. And as far as playing at GM
strenght I think that simply should be understood as being able to play
competitve at the GM level. For example if a computer entered several strong GM
tournies would it be able to beat GMs and what would its performance rating be.
there is no need to apply heavey semantics to the question. I think judging
from human GM play i've seen there is no question they are at GM strenght at
least the top 5. The question is are they a weak GM (2500 fide) strong GM (2600
fide) or superstrong (2700 fide).
If this question was asked can computers play blitz at the GM level there
would be no doubt that they can. there is ample evidence on internet chess
servers. Unfortunately there are fewer games at long time controls versus GMs
but anyone who wants to make a case for Computers being able to hold their own
is welcom to do it. lets hear about some of the computer GM games that have been
played formal and informal at slow time controls.
