I used the word seems because it is the impression that I got when I read the information. It is possible to do better job in explaining to prevent this impression if it is wrong. The only case that I can think of when the tournament can be fair is if the operators of the programs are not the same people during the tournament or if you use some kind of ranking when you can decide that more points is not always better(for example you decide about the ranking based on the rating of the players when you assume that the results happen again and again). > >> >>I believed that different people are behind the programs and I was surprised to >>read that marcus and andreas are behind more than one program. >>It means that part of the games are going to be the player against himself and >>it means that it is possible to manipulate the results. > >it only means that you make the wrong conclusions (as usual) and you give a >judgement about things you do not know. > >nobody would manipulate because we all are honest sportsmen. > >however, nobody has the chance to manipulate this way you are thinking of. >if you would ask before you are making (wrong) conclusions you would be told, >that, according to the tournament rules, nobody is allowed to play against >himself. Is the following situation possible by the rules? If it is possible that I see it as unfair Suppose there are 3 programs that are better than the rest. suppose 1 and 2 do not play because they have the same operator. Suppose that the tournament is of 7 rounds. 1 draws against 3 and win the rest of the games so it gets 6.5 out of 7. 2 draws against 3 and win the rest of the games so it gets 6.5 out of 7. 3 draws agauinst 1 and 2 and wins the rest of the games so it gets 6 out of 7. 3 scored less points than 1 and 2 so it is not one of the winners. If similiar situation happens in regular swiss tournament then 3 is simply unlucky because there was no agreement before the tournament that 1 is not going to play with 2. Uri
