From reading your reply it would seem you are now arguing that computers are GM strength. As for players not really trying, that also happens in all-human games. It is not all that unusual with human players going kamikaze again and again against some specific opponent. Why sould this not be allowed for computers. But in the main I think that the onus of proving that programs are not really GM level rests squarely on you. The results are there. Finding an acceptable hypothesis and proving it is in order.
