He's close to FM strength, and certainly qualified to make the statements that he made. People of that calibre (I believe he is in the top 100 in his country) are obvious candidates to become an FM or an IM. Does he have a title? No. Can he get a title? Very likely. As is, he will (on broad averages) score 15% of the points in matches against 2500 ELO GM's, 24% of the points in matches against 2400 ELO IM's and 36% of the points in matches against 2300 FM's [broad averages, of course]. I'd say he knows a thing or two about chess. So -- you tried to say that he was not qualified to make a judgement. Neither here nor there, of course, since his argument was correct. Basically, you missed his point completely and said he did not know what he was talking about. Then you carried it further by implying that he would not be competent to make chess type judgements. His point was obviously correct. Hence, your ad-hominum was just that. His point was: "You cannot make a judgement of strength from a single game." Your blast at his qualifications was silly and way off target. He is highly qualified to make subjective chess judgements. But if he were a complete novice, the statement remains true. IOW: Joe: "Whales are mammals." John: "What, are you some kind of marine mammal biologist who is an expert on such thing?" Joe: "Well, I do have a degree in biology, but I'm not a cetacean scientist." John: "See -- Whales aren't mammals at all." What's wrong with this picture? 1. Whales are mammals 2. John was qualified enough to know anyway. Even if he wasn't, the statement remains true. Easy over, or scrambled?
