Despite George Lyapko’s excellent autoit utility, I am having considerable trouble setting up "The Gauntlet." Certainly far more than I was at setting up "The Battle of the Crowns." There are a large number of new chess engines, and some of them have a few glitches. That can really throw a mess into an automated tournament sort of idea. I did some calibration at longer time controls just to see how the new programs were running: ftp://cap.connx.com/pub/The%20Gauntlet/calibration/ But I have had to abandon that because the progress is so abysmally slow. I am going to do a large series of high speed "reliablility tests" to ensure proper operation, and then start the tournament once I have figured out how to get everything operating smoothly. See (for example): ftp://cap.connx.com/pub/The%20Gauntlet/calibration/quick/ Along those lines, I would appreciate any hints about: 1. Engines that are troublesome. 2. Work-arounds for any problems that are known. I plan to rename all of the engines for the current contest so that they are stamped with their exact version number. That should make it much easier to know what we are talking about as far as engine strength and also alleviate confusion in the future.
