Subject: a new chess term that you have to deal with------GMB

Go up one level in this thread

well just another GrandMasterBlunder.

i have posted here several times about GMB games. i get a lot of replies
defending the GM. some of the replies leave the subject, and want to get
personal, come said "how long you been playin chess boy".
in all these GMB posts i was trying to discuss this issue.

just analyze GM losses against comps. in lots of them, the eval will stay
close to 0. they can hold these pieces of art to an eval of 0. andres
held the eval close to 0 for 24 moves. amazing play. these guys are the best in
the world. GM are the strongest we have in this sport.

go to any chess server, and watch lots of GMs games.
then analyze them with a program.
in lots of them the score will stay close to 0, then it happens, the GM death
move,,,the dreaded GMB. in this case the score jumps over 3 points with
this andres GMB.

in all of these GMB games, that lots of people here carry on about,
something has to be decided. these are getting more common, because it seems
more games are GM vs comp.

the first thing we need to do is come up with a new chess term, GMB.
this stands for a new issue the chess world will have to deal with from now on,
GRANDMASTER BLUNDER. (please dont tell me they have been blundering since the
cave man).

the GMB will only get worse. with hardware improvements, more kns, improvements
in the programs, we will see this GMB more often. and as each GM analyses his
fellow GMB in each game, this will also effect his attitude for the next game.
the GMB will increase every year.

so---when these GMB happen, what are all of these chess people going to say,
what comments can be made about the strength of a program, when there is a
3-4 or 5 point GMB in the game. are you going to use words like "crush",
"killed", "stomped", "didnt have a chance".

well i already realize we are going through a time period here, when the
programs are playing on a GM level. yes the programs need improvements.
king side attacks, openings, etc. we all know them. they are disscussed here
regularly. but as far as i am concerned we are there.

an IM that is very strong at one of the chess servers, has in his notes
"if you are a comp, dont match me, i hate chess comps". he probably had several
GMBs against comps.

i think once we see these GMB games, we need to say "well here is another GMB".
we can discuss these GMB games, but these GMB games are here to stay, and are
going to get worse.

ok, so now i agree with some replies to my posts. that GMs blunder often.
now i realize this. i will look at the GMB different. i just am not sure
about the best in our sport blundering so often. and i will not offer an ice
cold beer to the artist that created a program that wins against a GMB.
i will not jump up and down over a GMB game.

i think when openings and early kingside attacks are improved in the programs,
we will see the GM less willing to play programs in tournaments and at the
servers. it is amazing chris and these programmers keep finding improvements to
their programs. sometime in the future, guys like me will quit buying chess
programs and improving hardware. the comp games will become only draws. happens
all the time now.

oh well GMB to ya.
