Excellent thoughts all, will have to look at them.  Probably should check the
recording first.  My recorded PV doesn't show the q-search, btw.

I ran the 8 ply test after 1. Nf6, and it likes
   Pd7-d6 Nb1-c3 Bc8-f5 Nf3-g1 Nb8-d7 Nc3-d5 Bf5-e6 Nd5-c3
which is ugly in new ways. :-)
