How about turning hashing off and running the test again? Excellent thoughts all, will have to look at them. Probably should check the recording first. My recorded PV doesn't show the q-search, btw. I ran the 8 ply test after 1. Nf6, and it likes Pd7-d6 Nb1-c3 Bc8-f5 Nf3-g1 Nb8-d7 Nc3-d5 Bf5-e6 Nd5-c3 which is ugly in new ways. :-) Lotsa testing ahead... Thanks again!
