with a 2600 rating you do not get invitations to 'tournaments of high quality'
any more, at least not for the very best tournaments (unless you are dutch or
spanish of course). chessbase online lists 60 games by huebner for the year
2000, among his opponents are short, ivan sokolov, ponomariov, tiviakov, timman,
dreev, zviaginsev, bareev & kramnik - this is enough high class opposition for
anyone, and obviously he is still quite active.

i would bet that he is preparing very seriously for this match (because he is
the kind of guy who likes to prove something - in this case, that computers are
stupid), and he will also inform himself about anti-computer chess. the match is
6 games, with 2 rest days after game 2 and 4. this is exactly the kind of event
which i would like to see to show if comps are a match for GMs.
it doesnt really matter if the GM is 2500 or 2600 or 2700 - my view on this is
that the GM should be so much better positionally anyway than the computer, that
if he manages to avoid the computers strong points, he should win, regardless of
his rating. if huebner cannot beat deep fritz under such conditions, i will
change my mind on the subject of computers being GM strength.
