I know personally several of the players that are part of the tournament and
played against several of them. They should feel insulted if they read this kind
of discussion.

In fact, I know GM Panno very well. For the sake of illustration let me tell
that he is a gentleman and as a chessplayer he is not "just a GM". He is
somebody that gave birth to a variation (King Indian, Panno Variation) and has a
long outstanding career, he is probably 65-67 years old now. He was Junior World
Champion and had to quit for few years to graduate as an engineer. Despite that
stop in a critical time of his chess career and not being a full time
chessplayer, he was several times Argentinian Champion and in the early 70's
ranked in the World top 20 and almost qualify for the candidates matches in
Manila 76 (came in close like 0.5 point). In the 50's, he was a member of the
Argentinian team that captured the silver medal in three consecutive olympic
games after. Anybody remember Lone Pine tournaments? well, he won one of those.
Pretty darn strong GM.

Of course, aging hurts. It will be easy for him to just retire from active chess
and live from past glory (like many others). No, he just keep playing and accept
to play against a computer. We should thank him for that.

I understand that there is a lot of B.S. in this group, but sometimes we should
have a little more respect towards people that reached such a grade of
excellence and had a spotless career. I forgot to mention, he has been a chess
teacher his whole life and gave hundreds of lectures. For instance, GM Hoffman
(another friend of mine) was his student.

I do not mean to react, just to illustrate how silly is just the thought of
a fixed result. Besides, you just touched my former "maestro" and chess model
when I was a teen.

Regards,
Miguel
