Single game: epd2diag by Manfred Rosenboom is very nice. It will also handle junky or quirky headers. http://www.rebel.nl/epd2diag.htm Multiple games: you will need either the sankit or the OCD toolkit, both by Steven J. Edwards. Both of them are completely intolerant of things like special characters in the headers (so, for instance, scandinavian games give them fits). But they can convert thousands of games all at once. I just run the games through a filter that gives them all dopey headers like this: [Event "?"] [Site "?"] [Date "????.??.??"] [Round "?"] [White "?"] [Black "?"] [Result "*"] and then you won't have much problem. OCD: ftp://cap.connx.com/pub/chess-utils/ocd/ Sankit: ftp://cap.connx.com/pub/chess-utils/sankit/ The commands for both of them are pretty strange. For instance, to convert pgn to epd with sankit, it would look like this: E:\pgn>sankit Welcome to the SAN Kit. Revised: 1994.02.22 : tfge wcl.pgn wcl.epd >Each position >(except the last one), together with the next move, >should appear as a line of text in the >resulting epd file. >It would not be a serious problem for me if >only the positions were converted to fen format. >Leen Ammeraal
