Humans learn between games so the programmer shoould also be allowed to teach the computer between games but even without it, it seems that programs with a learning function and a secret big book can get the GM norms today and even without a big book I am not sure if the opponents are going to do the effort to play some strange lines like 1.e4 c5 2.Na3 or 1.c3 again and again. One IM drew with chesstiger by 1.c3 and the other players did not try to play 1.c3 later and I suspect that we are going to see similiar behaviour if one program is going to play for getting the GM norm because most players do not play the opponent and play the board.
