I'm one of the fortunate ones who has organized my life such that I get to do what I want to do most of the time (sometimes that's computer chess but most of the time it isn't), and I don't feel particularly starved for anything. If you and perhaps some others want to marginalize me, no problem. I don't need anyone's approval in order to get along, and my own sense of success or failure is not determined by anyone who lives outside of my house.
