Hello Jim, Of course they can, as partially demonstrated by Tiger. I think it's very relevant to determine if a computer program can demonstrate GM strength without depending on various databases and state of the art hardware. Similar issues will be forced at some point anyway if computer programs are to participate in human tournaments in the future (IMO). Not that it would be a great loss. Regards, Mogens
