I have been very curious about the new Junior 7. The games of the beta I have seen showed offensive and exciting chess. In the match versus ChessTiger the first beta-impressions have been confirmed: Junior does not care for the own material, sacrifices too much and too often IMO. Especially against ChessTiger this method is a dead born child. Tiger plays so stable, safe, secure so that Harakiri attacks don't work. Tiger takes what he can get, defends the attacks and escapes with a won endgame due to the plus of material that Junior sacced before. It worked so well that Tiger won clearly by 7.0-3.0 versus Junior. 5 wins and only one loss speak for themself. I am absolutely sure that Juniors play is very dangerous for humans, and some other programs will have problems standing Juniors attacks, always being under pressure. However, against solid playing programs this might not work, and I expect Junior having problems with Shredder 5.32 e.g. Unless that the 3.0-7.0 vs. Tiger was an exception. The result is OK, and after my tourney I will test Junior 7 abit more, vs. Shredder 5.32 and again vs. ChessTiger of course. But first I look forward to the match vs. GambitTiger. You find the games at http://www.geocities.com/Harald13127HaraldFaberE.html BTW the first round of the match is completed now. ChessTiger 14 reached very good 61.5 %. Could someone please calculate, how much ELO difference 61.5 % mean compared to the average ELO of the opponents? Thanks a lot!
