Computer analysis does turn up novelties from time to time. It also will find a reason why some openings are not played any more (IOW, they are unsound). Don't give the computers too much credit. They can see flawlessly 7 full moves ahead in a reasonable period of time. But they don't do strategic planning and sometimes are ignorant of basic chess ideas. Given enough data, the data can be combined to produce superior data. This can be iterated to produce better and better data. But it will take a lot of information before computers can pinpoint mistakes in well debugged traditional chess openings.
