Not much difference in overall strength between
Fritz, Junior, Shredder and Tiger. At least when it
comes down to comp-comp games. So every new released version
of these programs should produce positive results. For obvious
reasons. Even Nimzo 8 showed good results, at least among the
beta-testers. I find the "new course" of Junior - the tradeoffs
between material and other elements such as development, mobility,
attack and gaining other positional advantages - very interesting.
Of course this is far from being perfect yet, but serves as sort of
making a bridge between computer-and human chess. Watching games played
by 2 computers can often give very weird impressions, so I welcome this
 experiment.

Another issue are the rating points. For a new program to be marketed
as "35 points stronger than the previous version", it's enough to beat
the old version with some like 525-475 in 1000 games. Results transferred
down to 20 games, with consistent results, would equal 10,5-9,5 - or
1 win and 19 draws out of 20 games. Just for the sake of perspectives.
