My phone number is nearly the same as that of a vet nearby, so I do get called sometimes by people who want to make an appointment for their sick pet. Once a lady's cat needed extensive health care for quite some time so every week I got one or two calls from her for some weeks in a row. I kindly requested her to dial right or program the number into her phone. But the calls kept coming. So one day I saw on the number identification it was her again. I took up the phone and started: "this is veterinarian practice 'chimps and ducks'. If you're calling because of a sick cow, horse, goat or sheep, please push 1. If your calling because of small house pets, like cats, dogs, cockroaches and ants, push 2" I heard a <beep> so I continued: "You chose a one. If this is correct, choose a two. If this is incorrect choose a three" I heard a <beep> again so I continued: "You confirmed pushing a "one". At this moment we don't treat cows, horses, goats or sheep. Please call (right number) for medical treatment of your animals. I repeat (right phone number of real vet) Thank you for calling, this call will now be disconnected." I was quite proud of passing this reversed Turing test. She managed to call me another three or four times, and I let it ring. Eventually the calls (or her cat) died out. J.
